A Future Worth Envisioning Together

A CALL TO "ARMS,” HEARTS & MINDS

Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dear Friends,

Welcome to The Citizens’ Movement. Our purpose, as expressed, is to Revive the Spirit of Public Service — through the inauguration of the ethic of Servantship. Toward that end, on this web site you’ll find:

1.  The Home PageA home, we trust, for your deepest hopes and aspirations.

2.  About Us:  An overview of the simple 2-steps of the Citizens Movement:

Step 1:  Memorial Services are held to lay to rest, put of its misery, pay our respects, and give the last rites/rights to that “baneful” Partisan Spirit that Washington, the “Father of Our Nation,” solemnly warned us about.

Step 2:  Following the death, memorial service, the "resurrection," Revival of the Spirit of Public Service occurs; victory is proclaimed — on the basis of the distinguishing elements of the movement noted.

3. OverviewThe what, why, where, where, how, and who. What might you add, thereto?

4. Invitation to the Candidates is, as you might imagine, just that: an invitation to those servants, public servants, so moved, to assume the constitutional mantel/office to which they feel called. That is, one and all are invited to become part of the long-awaited solution, as opposed to being part and parcel of the ongoing problem: “Politics as Usual”.

In the video on the home page that invitation is extended to those with whom, as noted, we’ve been in touch: Robert F. Kennedy, Dennis Kucinich, Tulsi Gabbard, Donald Trump and Joseph Biden.

5. Listen to the People! This brief reckoning — heart-to-heart with Tulsi Gabbard — can not be summarized, asks to be read.

6. Walk with UsEveryone is invited, public and societal servants.

7. The Trim Tab: Little Efforts / Big Differences: Might you (WE, the People) be the one you’ve/we've been waiting for?

8. Planks/Offering: The campaign is a Celebration; its planks are Offerings. You’ve invited to contribute such offerings, your best thoughts, heartfelt striving to those that follow.

9. Our the People’s Oath of Office/Citizenship: Might the time be for WE, the People to speak up, affirm our oaths, as the 4th — and critical — check and balance in our participatory democratic-republic?

10. Amazing Grace: This passage from “The Prayer for Our Lands” introduces Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum at Davos, to his Mother of Mothers. Amazing Grace, indeed, as we speak.

More to come, friends . . . . .

1.  Public Servants, who are serving, or aspire to serve politically may find in the Citizens’ Movement the vehicle you’ve been seeking. As outlined in the following, all that is asked is that you assume the (note) constitutional office/mantel you feel called to and serve your fellow citizens — without expectation or fanfare. Simply serve. You’ll discover, we believe, that the revival of public service spoken of, its fruits are most bountiful.

2.  Societal Servants, whose service to the public extends, as we speak, beyond the political arena to life itself, you need not do anything different. Rather, we invite you to consider doing what you’re doing differently. That is, with an awareness of this greater citizens’ movement that you are invited to be a part of. May we inspire and support one another in our shared service along the way.

3.  Those who haven’t yet found an avenue of service -- we invite you to consider the planks/offerings on this site. We trust you will find them nourishing food for thought. For Dr. King’s words couldn’t, we believe, be truer: In our service lies our greatness, our very humanity

A warm welcome, friends, to lend a mindful, heartfelt hand. In the words of Margaret Meade:

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens [to begin with] can

change the world for the good. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”

~

Many are called; few are chosen."

And fewer still make the choice.

Ever More . . . .

To be clear at the outset, The Citizens’ Movement is not a campaign with candidates. Rather, WE, the People are a Celebration with Celebrants

We’re not running against anyone. Rather, WE, the People are walking, walking the talk of public service/service to the public.

We are not intent upon winning. Because WE, the People can’t lose, as long as we give it our best and offer up our labors in service to the Greater Good.

There are no sign-up sheets or dues. For ALL fellow citizens of good will are, in our minds, honorary/honored, members of WE, the People: The Citizens Movement to Revive the Spirit of Public Service.

For starters. Need one say more?

If so, we invite you to read on . . . .

Who We Serve:

Corrections:1) Dennis Kucinich’s campaign spoken of was not in 2,000 but in 2004;  2) Senator Danforth is not of Montana but Missouri.

Clarifications:1) The light and shadows that pass over the video reflect the blustery May day;  2) Fellow citizens are stepping forward not just as constitutional place-holders, standard bearers, but also as candidates/Celebrants in their own right, who, as noted on this site, are dedicating themselves to the revival of the spirit of public service.

A warning from George Washington, the "Father of Our Nation"

The Citizens’ Movement is founded and grounded in Washington's dire warning about partisan politics noted in his Farewell Address.

Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful [exceedingly dangerous and injurious] effects of the spirit of the party. . .

To the efficacy and permanency of your Union, a government for the whole is indispensable. No [partisan] alliance, however strict, between the parts [factions] can be an adequate substitute; they must inevitably experience the infractions and interruptions which all alliances in all times have experienced....

Washington was well aware of the division bound to be sown by the parties when he said:

You cannot shield yourselves too much against the jealousies and heartburnings which spring from these misrepresentations; they tend to render alien to each other those who ought to be bound together by fraternal affection.

Considering the wellbeing of our commonwealth is the imperative of the time.

Our Source

"America is great," DeTocqueville stated, "because America is good. And if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great."

So it was at the beginning of our nation: The aspiration for a truly United States, US, lived in the hearts and minds of our most aspiring forbears, as envisioned in the "Sacred Seal" of our land: E Pluribus Unum / Out of Many, One.

Before, that is, as Washington noted, the “baneful," divisive spirit of "party politics" took hold.

With all our imperfections, that striving for unity is, we believe, what makes us truly American -- destined to become “the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

The time is at hand to take courage, to revive the Spirit of Public Service. "Politics as usual" has had its day.

We return to Buckminster Fuller’s words, simple and to the point: If the system is broken, don’t fuss with it. Rather, learn the lesson that ask to be learned, and do what you can to help create a better system, an Ever More Perfect Union.

The "Calling"

The Citizens’ Movement offers an avenue whereby the People, We — young, old, middle-aged, female and male, red, black, white, brown, yellow, nurses, environ-mentalists, teachers and union members, bakers and candle-stick makers — a venue whereby ONE AND ALL can not only share, present your service, concerns, your labors for the consideration of your fellow citizens and public servants . . . .

But, those so moved to step into the political arena are encouraged to do so, to assume the constitutional

mantel/political office to which you feel called — from president to dog-catcher — without expectation or fanfare, within the spirit of public service.

The point being: If your service to your fellow citizens is worthy, you will be recognized as a true public servant.

Whichever constitutional office/mantel you may assume, you will become a trusted resource for your fellow citizens, who will seek you out.

Through such labors, WE, the People are, we trust, destined to work together to create a future worth envisioning for our children, grandchildren, and for the generations to come — ALL our relations.

Light and Shadow

New ideas of where we ought to be headed . . . . will emerge from individuals. The material out of which we [the People] shall build a new world is in us, in our minds, in our character, in our memory of things past, in our hopes for thefuture. We are the source. We shall conceive it; we shall design it; and we shall put it into operation.
