History: A Brief Glance

Learn from the past, prepare for the future, live in the present.
—Thomas S. Monson

In the aftermath of the 2016 Iowa Caucus and on the eve of New Hampshire’s First-in-the-Nation Primary, a new “candidate”/spirit entered into the presidential race: We the People.

Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump set things in motion. With Hillary Clinton assuming her party’s mantel, the movement We the People would serve to ensure that that motion/e-motion doesn’t further widen the chasm that divides our aspiring United States.

Rather, may the “promise” of We the People remind us of what must unite our nation — if we are to have, to create, together, a future worth envisioning for our children, grandchildren, and for the generations to come: All Our Relations.

“The Citizens’ Movement” recognizes the opening words of George Washington, the “Father of Our Nation”:

The party is over, all but over, on it last legs. And the Citizens Movement has begun. Indeed, independent voters all but outnumber Republicans and Democrats, together.

—George Washington

New ideas of where we ought to be headed . . . . will emerge from individuals. The material out of which we [the People] shall build a new world is in us, in our minds, in our character, in our memory of things past, in our hopes for thefuture. We are the source. We shall conceive it; we shall design it; and we shall put it into operation.
